Steps To Obtaining a Driver License
If you are the parent of a high school student it is likely that your son or daughter will want to drive. In California there are two state required courses students are required to complete in order to drive a motor vehicle. All teenagers under 18 years of age are required to take Driver Education and Driver Training. It does not matter if you live in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, or Eureka, the same requirements apply.
Driver Education is the first course that must be completed for the student to obtain a state completion certificate. In Driver Education class students learn about licensing requirements, traffic laws, rules of the road, safe driving practices, alcohol and drugs, emergencies, and health and safety. Both Driver Education Online and the classroom Driver Education class can be completed through Economic Driving School which has been educating Calif. Drivers for 35 years.
Upon completion of Online Driver Education or a classroom Driver Education course the student will receive a completion certificate. When the student is 151/2 or older they can take this with their birth certificate and social security number to the local DMV to take the written permit test.
Upon receiving their instruction permit the student must take Driver Training which is a 6 hour behind-the-wheel course. The student driver can only drive with a parent or adult 25 years of age or older after they complete their first Driver Training lesson. Students are required by law to practice for 50 hours, 10 of which must be at night.
All students must be 16 years of age and have their permit for 6 months before taking the behind the wheel driving test to obtain their California license. Economic Driving School offers DMV approved courses, Driver Education Online, Driver Training, as well as a Mature Driver Course for seniors.
